Retired – Looking to Downsize?

June 30, 2016

Recently, I had clients who, both in their 80s, who were looking to get out of home ownership and move into a hassle-free apartment in the same community. They had been living in the same house for over 50 years! Which, as you can imagine, was an emotional experience and hard to leave the house they had known for so long – literally raised a family in and seen their daughter grow up and bring her own kids over.

FOREVERYTHING DIGITALEssentially, they were new to the home selling process – since this had been their first home purchase. Not sure of what to expect, we made sure that they understood what takes place in the selling process. But more importantly, we made sure that they had help looking for their new apartment during the whole sale to ensure they were happy with where they were moving before any sale was finalized!

The house sold within 8 days of listing, and my clients were more than happy that the whole sale process had been smooth and explained step by step before rushing into anything.

Downsizing can be a daunting task. It’s sad to move out of a home you’ve known for so long, and it can be scary moving into a new place – starting off a new chapter of your life. Well, we are very happy to make sure you are comfortable the entire way, and help in any way we can.

Need to consider your finances, including your built up equity – I am a chartered accountant, and can put together a report for you that lets you take into consideration what you downsize to, and what you can expect from your home sale.
